Imagine you've spent $3,499 on a gadget and need to reset the password you chose at initial setup. Perhaps you simply forgot the password and need to change it anyway. It's normal, people forget passwords all the time, and they can usually reset it fairly easily either on the device itself or through a computer.
That's not how it works for the Apple Vision Pro headset, though. If you need to reset Apple Vision Pro password, there's no other way to do that right now other than taking it to an Apple Store or shipping it in to the company.
Password resets not possible on the Apple Vision Pro itself
This sounds like an unnecessarily complicated procedure to do what's essentially a very simple task. Users are required to set a six-digit passcode when they set up the Apple Vision Pro to use Optic ID authentication. They can decide not to use a password but then that takes away the ability to use the biometric login options.
It's only been a couple of days since the Apple Vision Pro was launched. Bloomberg reports that Apple's support line is already flooded with complaints about forgotten passwords for the headset and people are struggling to figure out how to reset them.
Apple's support reps are advising customers that the only way they can reset Apple Vision Pro password right now is to take their device into an Apple Store where genius bar staff can reset it or mail the headset to AppleCare customer support.
Simply put, Apple isn't allowing people who paid $3,499 for a headset to reset their passwords on their own device. Instead, the company is forcing them to bring back the device so it do the password reset for them. This seems like an unnecessarily complicated process, one that Apple could easily fix through a software update, but whether or not it does that remains to be seen.
