Official YouTube app for the Apple Vision Pro has been confirmed

A new device is only as good as the apps that are available for it. Even as Apple's $3,499 Vision Pro headset has launched with several hundred apps, there's one app that most users would undoubtedly be looking for on day one: YouTube. As it turns out, there's no official YouTube app for the headset as yet.

This is certainly good news for those who have been hoping that the app would eventually be made for the headset. YouTube had previously said in January that it didn't have any plans to make an app for the Vision Pro, but that appears to have changed.

Apple Vision Pro will eventually get an official YouTube app

A spoksperson for YouTube has confirmed to The Verge that while there are no specific plans to share at this time, “a Vision Pro app is on our roadmap.” What this simply means that while YouTube isn't saying if this app is already in development or when it would arrive, it has confirmed that eventually an official YouTube app for the Vision Pro will be released. When that's going to happen is anybody's guess right now.

Apple Vision Pro users can only use YouTube on the web through Safari on the headset, and the spokesperson for the video streaming site has also said that YouTube is supporting the Vision Pro launch by ensuring that users have a great experience in Safari.

YouTube isn't the only major streaming platform that's holding out. Netflix and Spotify don't have official apps for the Apple Vision Pro as yet, and it's unclear if or when they intend to launch their apps for Apple's newest device.

Perhaps YouTube has seen how popular an unofficial third-party app called Juno has been ever since the headset was launched. It would much rather that users access the service through an official app and that's likely what could have resulted in its confirmation that YouTube's native Apple Vision Pro app will arrive in due course.
