Last week, Samsung announced that it would soon release a software update to the Galaxy S24 to improve its camera performance. The update was released to the Galaxy S24 series in South Korea on Friday. Now, it appears that the camera-fixing update will be released to the Galaxy S24 in North America this week.
According to the software support page from Canadian carrier Fido (via @itsyaboimaxoo), the Galaxy S24 will get the February 2024 update on February 23. If this information is accurate, Galaxy S24 users in Canada can get improved camera performance later this week. The update will also include the February 2024 security patch that fixes 72 security vulnerabilities found in the previous software version.
The upcoming update aims to fix around ten camera-related issues on the Galaxy S24 series. Those changes include brightness and exposure optimization in scenes with bright backlight while using a high-resolution mode. The company has also claimed to improve the clarity and sharpness of text when using long zoom ranges on the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
The clarity and quality of videos from the Galaxy S24 Ultra's rear-facing cameras also seem to have improved. Samsung said that it improved the exposure of dark scenes in a frame when shooting indoors using the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The clarity and sharpness of human subjects also seem to have improved on the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
The Food mode in the camera app on the Galaxy S24 series should now offer a more immersive picture. The colors and white balance have also been improved in low-light conditions when using the Night mode. Samsung has claimed that it has improved the capturing of fast-moving subjects in scenes with a backlight, but this improvement is only applicable to the Galaxy S24 Ultra's rear-facing cameras.
The colors and exposure of subjects in an image have also been claimed to be improved with the new update. Users can also experience smoother zooming-in on RAW images captured in the DNG format.
Samsung said in its official post that it will take even more inputs from Galaxy S24 users and testers to release more camera fixes with future software updates.
