Samsung could link up with another major Korean group on AI

AI is the future and companies across different industries are taking a collaborative approach to utilize this technology for enhancing their offerings. Samsung is significantly invested in AI and is also open to collaborations with other companies.

It appears that the company may link up with another major Korean conglomerate on AI. There's talk of a potential alliance on artificial intelligence between Samsung Electronics and SK Group, which is South Korea's second-largest diversified conglomerate by revenue, second only to Samsung.

Samsung and SK Group could come together on AI

SK Chairman Chey Tae-won was at MWC 2024 yesterday and his first stop was the Samsung Electronics booth where he was accompanied by Samsung's mobile business head TM Roh. Tae-won was given an overview of Samsung's first AI phone, the Galaxy S24 series, and the upcoming Galaxy Ring health tracking wearable.

An interesting exchange happened between the two leaders during the 25 minute long visit. Speaking to Roh, the SK chief said that “We’re introducing the Global Telco AI Alliance at the SK Telecom booth. Regarding this, there’s something I would like to discuss further with you and SK Telecom CEO Ryu Young-sang.” Tae-won floated the idea of a meeting next month. Appreciating his request, TM Roh responded by saying that “We'll cooperate well.”

SK Group is focused on integrating more AI solutions into its business. The chief mentioned that all group companies are working hard to develop AI solutions and that every company in the conglomerate is doing something with AI.

It's not surprising that the conglomerate's chief would see an opportunity for synergy with Samsung Electronics as both companies enhance the use of AI in their products and services. Even though they remain competitors in the very lucrative memory semiconductor segment, there's no reason why Samsung and SK Group can't play nice with AI.
