The Galaxy A55 and A35 do not have the Galaxy S24’s AI features

Samsung has spent the first three months of 2024 boasting about the AI capabilities of its latest flagship, the Galaxy S24, and fans have unsurprisingly been wondering if Samsung will bring those capabilities to any other devices over the course of the year.

It's a given that any flagships Samsung launches in the future will provide what the company calls the Galaxy AI experience, but what about mid-range devices? The recent announcement of the Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55 has confirmed that Samsung is not yet ready to bring AI functionality to mid-range devices just yet.

The Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55 run Android 14 with One UI 6.1 out of the box, just like the Galaxy S24 series, but they do not have any of the surprisingly well-implemented AI features found on the latter. Whether it's something simpler like generative wallpapers to more complex functionality such as real-time translations and advanced photo editing, you won't find any of it on the Galaxy A35 or A55.

It's probably a good thing, too. While the Galaxy A35 and A55–the A55 in particular–come with faster chipsets compared to their predecessors, they likely aren't powerful enough to provide a good experience for most Galaxy AI features. However, we can't rule out the possibility that Samsung may change its mind later, even if there is not a high likelihood of that happening.

In addition to AI, we can confirm that the Galaxy A35 and A55 lack one of the most interesting non-AI features of One UI 6.1: wallpaper support in Always On Display. That's probably because the A35 and A55 don't have the efficient displays of the Galaxy S24 lineup, which is also the reason wallpaper support in Always On Display isn't coming to any flagship smartphones launched before the Galaxy S24 either.
