Samsung has fallen behind in the foldable smartphone race as its Chinese rivals are introducing better and newer technologies. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is hardly considered an upgrade over its predecessor, and its job will soon become even tougher. Samsung's rival, Vivo, plans to launch its flagship foldable phone, the X Fold 3 Pro, in India.

Galaxy Z Fold 5 to face a tough challenge in India from Vivo X Fold 3 Pro

According to a report, Vivo will launch the X Fold 3 Pro smartphone in India in early June 2024. It will compete with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the OnePlus Open. In China, the X Fold 3 Pro is cheaper than the Galaxy Z Fold 5, and that could be true in the Indian market as well, at least looking at Vivo's track record in terms of pricing.

The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro has a 6.53-inch OLED screen with Full HD+ resolution and a 21:9 aspect ratio. On the inside, the phone has an 8.03-inch foldable OLED screen with QHD+ resolution and an almost square aspect ratio. Both screens have a 1Hz-120Hz variable refresh rate, 4,500 nits peak brightness, and Dolby Vision certification. The device has a carbon fiber hinge and an IPX8 rating for water resistance. Both screens have under-display ultrasonic fingerprint readers. The phone also features stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos audio.

Both screens of the X Fold 3 Pro have 32MP selfie cameras. On the rear, it has a 50MP primary camera (1/1.3-inch), a 50MP ultrawide camera (1/2.76-inch), and a 64MP telephoto camera (1/2-inch) with 3x optical zoom (periscope). All the rear cameras can record 8K 30fps videos and 4K 60fps videos. The selfie cameras can record 1080p 60fps videos, a downgrade compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 5. However, all its rear-facing cameras are superior in terms of hardware compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Vivo X Fold 3 Pro

It has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, 16GB RAM, and 512GB/1TB internal storage. It is powered by a 5,700mAh battery and supports 100W fast wired charging, 50W fast wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging. Its connectivity features include GPS (L1 + L5 dual-frequency), 5G, a dual-SIM card slot, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, IR port, and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port.

Galaxy Z Fold 5 to have a tough time justifying its higher price over the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro

Apart from software stability, a longer software update schedule, and a better selfie camera, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 has no advantage over the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro. Moreover, Vivo's foldable phone will likely be cheaper than the Galaxy Z Fold 5. So, Samsung will have a tough time justifying its pricing in India.
