Google Photos for Android and iOS has been offering many AI-powered photo/video editing tools, such as Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and Portrait Light. However, they have been exclusive to Pixel devices and people who have subscribed to Google One.

Last month, Google announced that it would make those AI-powered editing tools available to non-Pixel devices as well as for accounts that have not subscribed to Google One starting 15 May 2024. Well, that change finally seems to be going into effect.

According to a few people on Reddit, they are able to access AI-powered editing tools in Google Photos on their non-Pixel devices even though they have not subscribed to Google One. That means, you should be able to see AI-powered editing tools in Google Photos on your Galaxy smartphone or tablet, even if you are not a Google One user.

Google Photos' Magic Editor comes to Samsung's devices

Google Photos for Android also offered a feature called Magic Editor, which was exclusive to Pixel 8 series smartphones. Well, this feature is also now available for other Pixel and non-Pixel devices. However, if you have a free Google account, you can use this feature to save only ten photos. If you want more saves, you'll have to get Google One.

In addition to the features mentioned above, people with older Pixel devices, non-Pixel devices, and free Google accounts should be able to access these AI-powered features in Google Photos:

  • Sky Suggestions
  • Color Pop
  • HDR effect for photos & videos
  • Portrait Blur
  • Cinematic Photos
  • Styles in collage editor
  • Video Effects

One UI 6.1 also offers exciting photo/video editing tools

If you are using a Samsung smartphone/tablet, you can also edit photos/videos on your device in Samsung's Gallery app, which has very useful Galaxy AI-powered editing tools.

Galaxy AI is as a part of One UI 6.1. To check if your Galaxy device is eligible for the new software or not, click here. You can also watch our video above to learn more about Galaxy AI.
