Samsung has been moving at a snail's pace regarding cameras on its flagship phones, and fans have been fed up with seeing the same camera hardware for years. However, things are looking brighter for the future, as the company seems to be bringing a huge upgrade with the Galaxy S25 Ultra's cameras.

Galaxy S25 Ultra camera specifications leak

According to reliable tipster Ice Universe, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will still have a quad-camera setup, but it will upgrade two cameras with bigger and higher-resolution sensors. The tipster claimed on Chinese microblogging website Weibo that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will have a 200MP primary camera, a 50MP ultrawide camera, a 50MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 50MP super-telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.

If this information is correct, Samsung is upgrading all the rear-facing cameras on the Galaxy S25 Ultra to newer, higher-resolution sensors. In comparison, the Galaxy S24 Ultra has a 200MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 50MP super-telephoto camera sensor with 5x optical zoom.

You can watch our review of the Galaxy S24 Ultra's camera in the video below. The story continues after the video.

While most other Android rivals have upgraded to using 50MP or higher-resolution sensors for rear-facing cameras on their high-end phones, Samsung stuck to 10MP and 12MP sensors for telephoto and ultrawide cameras on its highest-end Galaxy S series device. However, it is good to know that the South Korean firm has big upgrades planned for next year. This should enable 8K video recording on all rear-facing cameras on the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

There have been rumors that Samsung might also use a newer 200MP camera sensor for the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which might be closer to a 1-inch sensor in size. If that is indeed true, we might see a massive overhaul to the camera quality early next year.

Information regarding cameras on the vanilla Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S25+ is still unclear. Considering that the Galaxy S25 will be announced early next year, we should start seeing information about Samsung's upcoming flagship series in the next few months.

What to expect from Galaxy S25?

The Galaxy S25 series is expected to bring a noticeable design change, improved cameras, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor, and One UI 7 software based on Android 15.

Some Galaxy S25 series devices might also feature a new Exynos processor (Exynos 2500?) that uses newer CPU cores from ARM and Samsung Foundry's second-generation 3nm process. This new chipset is rumored to be designed from the ground up for high performance and efficiency, and it might have features tailored for Galaxy devices.
