An investigation has been opened into Samsung in South Korea after two workers at one of the company's chipmaking plants in the country were allegedly exposed to radiation. The investigation was announced by the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission in South Korea.

The incident in question is said to have taken place at the Giheung chip manufacturing plant which is located some 25 miles out of Seoul, South Korea's capital city. The exact cause has still not been figured out so it may be a while before its made clear precisely what caused that radiation exposure.

The exact cause of radiation exposure remains a mystery

The two workers were hospitalized and they were found to be showing “abnormal” symptoms of exposure in their fingers, even as their regular blood tests had shown normal results.

The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission has said that it has suspended the use of the machine because of which the incident took place. This will help contain any potential repeat of the incident while the investigation is conducted.

It would be too soon to allege that may be this was due to a violation of safety laws that may have taken place at the company. For all we know, it could have happened due to a fault in the machine, or human error.

Samsung hasn't commented on the matter as yet and it's unlikely that it will do so, but one can imagine that it's supporting the investigation so that workers can continue to make chips in safe working conditions.
