Yesterday, Samsung launched the 2024 versions of the Odyssey OLED G8 and the Odyssey OLED G6 gaming monitors globally. Now, the company has listed the two models on its official website for the United States for sale, and these listings reveal a few features of the two gaming monitors that it hadn’t revealed earlier.
Two new features to prevent burn-in
Let’s start with the biggest feature. According to the listings, the Odyssey OLED G8 and Odyssey OLED G6 come with Samsung OLED Safeguard+, “a new proprietary burn-in protection technology” that prevents burn-in “by applying a pulsating heat pipe to the monitor.”
According to Samsung, this new cooling system diffuses heat “five times more effectively than the older graphite sheet method, which prevents burn-in by reducing temperature at the core.” It's worth mentioning that, unlike previous models, the new ones feature a flat screen.
That’s not the only new method onboard to prevent burn-in. The 2024 variants of the Odyssey OLED G8 and the Odyssey OLED G6 detect “static images like logos and taskbars” and automatically reduce their brightness to “provide another means of burn-in prevention.”
New technology to reduce glare
Moving on to the next feature, the 2024 Odyssey OLED G8 and the Odyssey OLED G6 feature the new OLED Glare Free technology. According to Samsung, it “preserves color accuracy and reduces reflections while maintaining image sharpness to ensure an immersive viewing experience, even in daylight.”
The company further adds “The OLED-optimized, low-reflection coating overcomes the trade-off between gloss and reflection thanks to a new, specialized hard-coating layer and surface coating pattern.” We wonder if it is the same technology that the company is using on its latest flagship OLED TV, the S95D.
New processor for better image upscaling
Coming to the last feature, the Odyssey OLED G8 and the Odyssey OLED G6 feature the NQ8 AI Gen3 processor, the same chipset that Samsung uses for the company’s 8K TVs. According to the company, the new SoC “upscales content to nearly 4K when using Samsung Gaming Hub and the monitor’s native Smart TV apps for higher resolution in gaming and entertainment.”
All-in-all the 2024 Odyssey OLED G8 and Odyssey OLED G6 seem to bring big and useful upgrades over their predecessors. With these features, they are arguably one of the best gaming monitors on the market. If you are looking to purchase one, check out our video above to know more about them.
