Samsung is working on a feature that will allow you to check the time on your Galaxy smartphone. Oddly, though, it would require you to install two additional apps from Samsung to get that feature working.
Good Lock's Registar module to bring a new way to check the time on Galaxy phones
An update to the Registar app will bring a new feature (via @tarunvats on X and 9To5Google) that will let users check the time on Galaxy phones using a double-tap gesture on the back of the device. This feature will work even when the screen is turned off. The current version of Registar can't trigger actions when the screen is turned off.
This feature will debut with One UI 6.1.1 on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Later, it will be compatible with other devices with the One UI 7.0 update, which is expected to be released in the fourth quarter of this year. Users must install the Good Lock app and the Registar app to use this feature. Currently, the double-tap gesture has seven options, which are listed below.
- Take and share screenshot
- Access your Google voice assistant
- Start pop-up window
- Show notifications
- Show recent apps
- Back button
- Open app (an app of your choice)
The double-tap gesture to check the time could be helpful in specific scenarios when the user won't be able to touch the screen or click the power button. However, we don't know how widely it will be used, as the probability of facing such a scenario will likely be very low.
