Samsung continues to use underpowered Exynos chips in its new phones

Samsung has a knack for using underpowered processors in most of its entry-level and mid-range smartphones. We had hoped that the company might improve its processor selection next year, but that doesn't appear to be the case, at least for the LTE variant of the Galaxy A13.

The company's next entry-level smartphone appeared in Geekbench's database, revealing its processor, RAM, and operating system. The Galaxy A13 (SM-A135F) appears to feature the Exynos 850 processor and 3GB RAM, and it runs Android 12 (One UI 4) out of the box, which means that it will get the Android 14 update.

Galaxy A13 4G's Exynos 850 processor might be too weak for most games

The Exynos 850 is Samsung's cheapest and least powerful processor. It is fabricated using an 8nm process, and it has four Cortex-A55 CPU cores clocked at 2GHz and a single-core Mali-G52 GPU. It is one of the weakest mobile chipsets you can find in a smartphone these days. We hope that the South Korean firm will do better with the Galaxy A14 by using a faster processor.

The 5G variant of the Galaxy A13, which is already on sale in the US, uses the decently powerful MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor. It has two powerful Cortex-A76 CPU cores running at 2.2GHz, six Cortex-A55 CPU cores clocked at 2GHz, and the Mali-G57 MC2 GPU clocked at 950MHz.

The Galaxy A13 has a 6.5-inch IPS LCD display with HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. It has a 5MP selfie camera and a 50MP+2MP+2MP triple-camera setup at the rear. It has 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot. It is powered by a 5,000mAh battery and supports 15W fast charging. The 4G version of the phone might launch within the next few weeks.
