If Samsung launches this AI Speaker, it’s game over for all smart speakers

Samsung is quite late to the smart speaker bandwagon. Even though it unveiled the Galaxy Home smart speaker three years ago, the product was never actually released. It did come out with the Galaxy Home Mini a while back but it wasn't sold outside of South Korea.

Meanwhile, everyone from Apple to Google and Amazon has cornered their share of the smart speaker market. Samsung knows that it needs to do something different, particularly when Bixby can't compete with the Siris, Google Assistants and Alexas of this world. So it just showed off a different approach that just might mean it's game over for the rest.

The smart speaker to end all smart speakers

Samsung Display has revealed an AI Speaker concept today at the Consumer Electronics Show 2022 in Las Vegas. We were super thrilled to check it out in person. The idea here is to combine the functionality of a smart speaker with Samsung Display's next-level display technology.

At first glance, the AI Speaker appears to be a normal speaker with a display wrapped around it. The display can actually stretch out to become a 12-inch wide flat display. This basically becomes a portable display that also happens to be a smart speaker.

Imagine having this in your kitchen. You tell Bixby to pull up the video for a recipe, it does that and stretches the display so you can watch and cook at the same time. Or you ask for the headlines in the morning and the display opens up to catch you up on the news.

The possibilities are endless. Samsung's advantage here is that it can utilize the amazing advancement its display affiliate has achieved to put a smart speaker on the market that's unlike anything else we've seen so far.

Will it do that, though? That's unclear. It should. Samsung could very well win a major slice of the smart speaker market with a product like this.
