Samsung showcased many new display technologies, TVs, and monitors at CES 2022 in Las Vegas. We had a chance to visit Samsung's CES booth and look at all its new products, including the giant 55-inch Odyssey Ark curved gaming monitor, the Odyssey Neo G8 gaming monitor, and the flagship Odyssey Neo G9 that was announced in the second half of 2021.
The Odyssey Neo G9 is Samsung's first mini-LED-based gaming monitor. It is also the world's first curved mini-LED gaming display. It has a 49-inch curved VA panel with mini-LED backlighting, 5,120 x 1,440 pixels resolution, and a 32:9 aspect ratio. It has 2,048 local dimming zones, a 240Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, and up to 2,000 nits peak brightness.
Samsung's flagship gaming monitor has a variable refresh rate and is compatible with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia G-Sync. It has two HDMI 2.1 ports for high-resolution high-refresh-rate gaming. It has one DisplayPort 1.4, two USB 3.1 ports, HDR10+, and RGB lighting. It also offers a side-by-side multitasking view.
In-person, the monitor looked great, offering bright visuals, high pixel density, excellent contrast, and deep blacks. However, to drive such a high-resolution monitor, you need to connect it to an ultra-high-end PC or laptop featuring flagship GPUs like the Nvidia RTX 3080 or the AMD Radeon RX 6800 (or higher). Plus, it costs a whopping $2,500, which might be out of reach for most gamers.
