When you think about purchasing a commercially successful foldable or flip phone, Samsung is the brand name that would definitely come into your mind. Well, such is the domination of Samsung in the current foldable smartphone market. And the company has replicated the success in terms of numbers as well.
Ross Young, a display analyst, shared some information about the foldable smartphone market in 2021 on Twitter. According to Ross, Samsung enjoyed an 88% share of foldable smartphone shipments in 2021, clearly dominating the foldable smartphone market. This number is up from 86% in 2020. These numbers were basically from an upcoming report from the Display Supply Chain.
Samsung's foldable phones were among the top two best-selling models
The increase in numbers is pretty interesting to see, as there were new players in the foldable market last year. All these point towards an exciting future of foldable smartphones.
Notably, the top two best-selling foldable smartphone models last year were from Samsung. Moreover, Samsung had four foldable phones in the top five list. Though Ross Young did not reveal the names of the top two models, it shouldn't be that tough to believe that the two foldables are the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Z Fold 3.
Since more new players are entering the foldable smartphone market, the competition in this new segment of smartphones is surely going to increase. There are Chinese OEMs like OPPO and Huawei that have already introduced foldable smartphones. However, the devices from these brands are limited to China.
