Last year, Samsung was the world's biggest smartphone brand, and the Galaxy A12 was its best-selling device. In fact, the entry-level smartphone was the world's best-selling smartphone, and it topped various iPhones in 2021.
According to the latest numbers from market research firm Omdia, Samsung sold over 51.8 million units of the Galaxy A12 last year at an ASP (Average Selling Price) of $160. The iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and the iPhone 11 ranked second, third, and fourth, respectively. Apple sold over 41.7 million units of the iPhone 12 and 34.9 million units of the iPhone 13. Over 33.6 million units of the iPhone 11 were sold in 2021.
Xiaomi's Redmi 9A was the fifth best-selling smartphone in the world last year, with sales crossing 26.8 million units. Apple's higher-end phones, the iPhone 12 Pro Max (26.1 million) and the iPhone 13 Pro Max (24.1 million) ranked sixth and seventh, respectively. Over 21.2 million units of iPhone 12 Pro were sold last year, while the iPhone 13 Pro's sales reached 19.4 million units.
The Galaxy A02, with an average selling price of $138, sold over 18.3 million units. This graph shows how dominating Apple is in the high-end smartphone segment. All the iPhones in the best-selling smartphones list cost over $600, and they still sold reached yearly combined sales of over 200 million units.
