Galaxy S21 FE vs Galaxy S22 camera battle: Who wins in Fan Edition vs flagship?

Despite its name, the Galaxy S21 FE 5G debuted much closer to the Galaxy S22 series than the Galaxy S21 trio of 2021 flagships. Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S21 FE 5G and the Galaxy S22 series one month apart, and it was the FE model that broke the ice in January 2022.

With that in mind, it's only fitting to compare the Fan Edition 2022 model with the Galaxy S22 series. We did just that in our latest video — which you can find below — and pitted the Galaxy S21 FE 5G's cameras against the Galaxy S22+.

Wanting to give the Galaxy S21 FE 5G a fair shot, we've excluded the Galaxy S22 Ultra model from this battle, and we used the Galaxy S22+. Although, keep in mind that the base Galaxy S22 model and the S22+ share the same camera configuration.

Galaxy S21 FE 5G vs Galaxy S22: Which one has better cameras?

The ultimate question is whether the Galaxy S21 FE 5G can threaten the 2022 flagships in mobile photography. We ran a few real-world tests to find out, and the Galaxy S21 FE 5G held up pretty well and even beat the Galaxy S22 in a few areas, surprisingly enough.

You can check our latest video below for details and some sample photos and videos, but suffice to say, the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ have the edge over the Galaxy S21 FE 5G at the end of the day. Although again, the latter performs surprisingly well given the circumstances.

The Galaxy S21 FE 5G has a 12MP wide-angle camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, an 8MP telephoto shooter, and a 32MP selfie camera.

The Galaxy S22 and S22+ each have a 50 MP wide-angle camera, a 12MP ultra-wide shooter, a 10MP telephoto camera, and a 10MP selfie sensor. Don't let the lower resolution selfie sensor fool you. It performs better than the Galaxy S21 FE's 32MP shooter in most cases, proving again that a high resolution isn't everything.

Check our latest video for more details, and you can also find additional side-by-side specifications for the Galaxy S21 FE and S22 below.
