Sales of Samsung's foldable phones increased by multiple folds last year. The company is expected to have sold over 9 million Galaxy Z series phones in 2021. This year, the South Korean firm may be planning to sell even more foldable smartphones, at least as per some industry insiders.
According to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), Samsung's production targets for the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the Galaxy Z Fold 4 are more than double last year's foldable phones. It could mean that the company plans to sell at least 2x more Galaxy Z series smartphones in 2022.
Ross Young also claimed that Samsung could launch the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the Galaxy Z Fold 4 at a lower price compared to previous devices. This is possible since more smartphone brands have launched foldable phones now. Companies like OPPO, OnePlus, Vivo, and Xiaomi are expected to launch their foldable phones outside China this year.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is rumored to be lighter and thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 3, and it will not come with a built-in S Pen slot. Samsung could be trying to make foldable phones easier to use and easier on the wallet to improve sales. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is also said to feature the same primary and ultrawide cameras as the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
