Your Samsung phone’s charging cable could soon charge an iPhone

It seems like you won't be needing to carry different cables for charging devices because the members of the European Parliament (via MacRumors) have voted in favor of legislation that will compel Apple to offer a USB-C charging port across all of its devices. Well, this also includes other consumer electronics manufacturers who are in the business of selling phones, tablets, laptops, cameras, consoles, and more in Europe.

However, all eyes are on Apple because the company has been using Lightning Ports on its iPhones for years. While its other products such as iPads and Mac devices come with a USB-C port. This forces the customer in the Apple ecosystem to purchase and carry a different cable for charging iPhones, iPads, and Mac devices.

Apple is in major trouble compared to Android smartphone manufacturers

Android manufacturers will be in less trouble here because all Android smartphone manufacturers, including Samsung, offer USB-C as the default charging port on their devices. Apple, along with some consumer electronics manufacturers, will soon need to adapt to USB-C charging ports on their devices, which could be a major challenge for these companies.

The main idea behind this EU move is that electronic consumers would only need to carry a single cable to charge or port data between devices. This move will actually help reduce electronics waste (unlike Apple's move to remove chargers from the box, compelling users to buy them separately). However, for this to come into effect, the EU Parliament needs to approve the legislation next month.
