Google is right on track with its Android 13 schedule. The company had previously released developer preview builds of the new upgrade. It has now rolled out the first Android 13 beta. This means that the next major upgrade has now formally shifted from the developer preview to the beta track.
The company is going to dive deeper into Android 13 at its I/O conference in the coming weeks. There are many Samsung devices compatible with Android 13, so it's going to be an exciting time for Galaxy users as well.
Android 13 beta 1 is now available for download
Android 13 isn't a complete overhaul like its predecessor was. The vast majority of the changes spotted so far seem to be focused on improving existing functionality and enhancing privacy. For example, Android 13 uses granular permissions for all apps that require access to the media files on your device.
Instead of the app requesting access to all photos, videos or audio files, it will now have to request access to each respective file type. A very handy feature included in Android 13 is an overlay for the clipboard that enables you to edit what you've copied.
Cosmetic changes include a new playback bar in the notifications shade, new Material You themes and app suggestions in the app drawer. How much of that finds its way into our Galaxy devices remains to be seen, as Samsung will undoubtedly be making some of its own changes with One UI 5.0.
We can expect to learn more about the upcoming features and improvements as new Android 12 beta builds are released in the near future. Samsung users will have to wait for the Android 13 One UI 5.0 beta program before the update gets released for everyone. We do hear that the beta program may start much earlier this year.
