According to a report by Yonhap News Agency, Samsung wants to dig deeper into the world of the metaverse and will expedite metaverse-related technology development. In doing so, Samsung Electronics wants to join the other big companies already betting big on this new field.
As reported by sources, Samsung Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee recently discussed the topic with a number of employees. Moreover, he also reaffirmed Samsung's plan to roll out its own version of the metaverse. Han has chosen metaverse and robotics as the new growth areas, which the company will now focus on at the March annual shareholders' meeting.

During the meeting, Han said, “We will launch metaverse devices and solutions to enable customers to experience the new technology wherever they are.” Similar remarks were made by Han during the 2022 MWC in Barcelona, Spain, in February as well, hinting at how seriously he wants Samsung to progress in that direction.
The company has already established a task force dedicated to this new technology. This task force, which reports directly to Han, is reportedly developing Samsung's first virtual reality headset under the Galaxy name. Samsung Research, the R&D hub of the company, has also joined the bandwagon and is currently studying “the next-generation display technologies and device prototypes,” as per the company.
