Samsung Display earned the “Display of the Year” award from SID (Society for Information Display) for its Eco² OLED technology. It's the most prestigious award among display industry giants, as it only goes out for display products that “had the most significant technological advances or outstanding features” every year.

Eco² OLED is Samsung's first-ever integrated polarizer OLED panel, and it debuted with the Galaxy Z Fold 3. The technology was praised by SID for its significant reduction in power requirements and its contribution to making UPC (Under Panel Camera) possible.

Nevertheless, Samsung's journey has only begun. And for us Galaxy fans, the company recently shared its updated vision of what future smartphones and tablets powered by Eco² OLED could look like.

Foldable and slidable mobile devices seem to be the way of the future

From a tri-folding tablet dubbed the Flex S to vertically and horizontally-sliding smartphone-tablet hybrids, Samsung's new promotional OLED video titled “Meet amazing techverse in Samsung Display” has some pretty ambitious concepts showing.

Unfortunately, there's no concrete timeline as to when we might see these new and ambitious foldable form factors realized. But after a decade of work, the most difficult task for Samsung was to release the first foldable phone and prove that the concept is viable.

The Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip lineups have achieved just that. Foldable displays are a reality, so we might not have to wait another ten years before we see the existing foldable display technology put into practice in other types of devices, like tri-folding tablets, slidable phones, and so on. Given Samsung's apparent confidence, this massive shift could happen in the next few years.

Check out the video below for a closer look at Samsung's vision of the future, and let us know what you think.
