Are you frustrated by seeing unwanted news stories on Google Chrome’s home page on your Samsung phone or tablet? Well, there’s some good news for you. Google is working on removing Discover and Following feeds from the New Tab page on Chrome for Android.

Currently, the New Tab page on Google Chrome for Android shows a search bar, frequently visited websites, and two content feeds. One is the Discover feed, which shows stories based on your page visits. The second is the Following feed, which shows content from the publishers/websites that you follow.

Chrome shows these feeds by default at the moment. If you don’t want to see them, you can turn them off manually. However, this is going to change soon. Google is working on a new flag, which “completely” removes the Discover and the Following feed from the New Tab page by default. You will not have to turn off those feeds manually.

The flag is currently being tested in the Chrome Canary channel, which is a beta version for testing new features. Reportedly, this project is being fast-tracked and Google could roll it out to the public with Chrome version 103 next month. What we don’t know yet is if the feeds can be turned on manually, but we are not sure why anyone would want to do that.

Google is also working on a similar feature for the iOS version of its web browser. It is not clear what Google’s intentions are behind removing these feeds by default. Samsung’s Internet web browser is free from such clutter and so is Safari on iOS. Maybe Google wants to bring Chrome in line with those web browsers.
