Google Calculator’s new design finally does justice to tablets’ bigger screens

Earlier this month, Google announced that it would focus on tablets again and bring various software improvements with Android 13. It also announced that it would release around 20 tablet-optimized apps to improve the adoption of Android tablets. Now, it has released an updated calculator app for tablets.

Google Calculator, which comes pre-installed on various phones and tablets, now has a new UI design. The newer version of the app (version 8.2) is optimized to take full advantage of a tablet's bigger display. It shows all the necessary buttons on the right and a history log on the left. Earlier, the app used to take up the whole screen just to show number and function buttons.

Moreover, when the app is used with another app in split-screen multitasking mode, the history log disappears so that both apps can be used without any issues. The app has also received a quick setting toggle that quickly lets you access the calculator from any screen.

With the previous update, Google had introduced the Material You design to the Google Calculator app. Samsung's Galaxy Tab devices come pre-installed with the Samsung Calculator app with more features and a decent UI. This is in stark contrast with Apple, which doesn't ship its iPads with any stock calculator app.
