Google delaying Android 13 may change Samsung’s One UI 5.0 plan

Samsung fans are looking forward to the One UI 5.0 update that's going to bring Android 13. The company was expected to launch the One UI 5.0 beta program in July but that didn't happen, possibly due to Google.

It was previously expected that Samsung would start the One UI 5.0 public rollout by October this year. However, with Google expected to delay the Android 13 release, Samsung's plans might end up being changed.

One UI 5.0 release might be slightly delayed

It's important to understand why there's a potential for delay here. Compared to previous versions, Google released the initial developer preview of Android 13 much earlier this year. This led to the expectation that the Android 13 release for the public will also take place earlier than before. Many had expected Google to go through with the launch in August.

That seems unlikely now. Google has posted the Android 13 Security Bulletin for this month. The release notes suggest that Android 13 will be launched with the September 2022 security patch. Therefore, there's a good chance we may not see Android 13 being released in August.

We've previously highlighted why the One UI 5.0 beta delay might be due to Google. This suggests that perhaps that might be the case. It's still unclear when Samsung plans on launching the One UI 5.0 beta, but there are signs that it might be starting soon.

As for how much it might delay the final One UI 5.0 release remains to be seen. It was previously expected that the update would be rolled out by October. Now Samsung fans can reasonably expect their Android 13 eligible Galaxy devices to receive the update by November this year.
