Galaxy Buds 2 Pro vs Galaxy Buds Pro: Is it worth upgrading?

Samsung's latest flagship wireless earbuds, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, succeed the Galaxy Buds Pro. But if you are an existing Galaxy Buds Pro user, is it worth upgrading to the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro? Are there enough improvements to warrant an upgrade in just one year? Let us compare their features to know more.

Galaxy Buds 2 Pro vs Galaxy Buds Pro: What are the improvements?

Both wireless earbuds feature a dual-driver setup, six microphones, and ANC (Active Noise Cancellation). However, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro feature improved ANC performance. Thanks to the Voice Pickup feature, both earbuds can distinguish between ambient noise and human voices, and they switch to Ambient Mode temporarily when you talk to someone around you.

While the Galaxy Buds Pro features Bluetooth 5.0 with AAC and SBC codecs, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro uses an upgraded chip with Bluetooth 5.3. It features AAC, Samsung Seamless Codec HiFi, and SBC. Samsung's new codec can transmit 24-bit lossless audio, but the feature only works with Galaxy devices running One UI 4.0.

The 360 Audio feature debuted with the Galaxy Buds Pro, and Samsung is improving it with the Direct Multi-Channel feature on the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro. It makes 360 Audio even more seamless and immersive. Both earbuds feature Auto Switching between Galaxy devices signed in with the same Samsung account.

With ANC turned on, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro can last up to 5 hours and 18 hours with the case. With ANC turned off, the new earbuds can last up to 8 hours straight and up to 29 hours with the case. That's just one hour longer than the Galaxy Buds Pro, so it's not enough to consider it an upgrade. Both earbuds feature USB Type-C port, fast charging, and Qi wireless charging.

Both earbuds feature AKG audio tuning, Ambient Mode, wind noise reduction, Dolby Atmos, Bixby, IPX7 rating, and SmartThings Find. Overall, if you're into lossless audio and want better 360 Audio, you can upgrade to the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro. But if you don't, you don't need to upgrade from the Galaxy Buds Pro to the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro.

The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro is still a significant upgrade over the Galaxy Buds, Galaxy Buds+, or the Galaxy Buds Live. You can find in-depth specifications comparison of the Galaxy Buds Pro and the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro in the table below.
