The Galaxy Z Flip 3 was one of the best Samsung phones ever. It was the combination of the stylish design, unique form factor, specs, and price that made it such a hit. Samsung now has to repeat that success with the Galaxy Z Flip 4. The question is, can it?

Our brief Galaxy Z Flip 4 hands-on experience left us convinced that it most certainly can. What Samsung has done here is take something that was good and made it even better. The result is a device that most customers shouldn't think twice about dropping $999 on.

Galaxy Z Flip 4 hands-on: Lightning strikes twice for Samsung!

The design isn't all that different from its predecessor. This was a nip and tuck operation from Samsung. The round edges are flatter, the hinge is a bit slimmer with a glossy effect on the frame. It looks incredible and is comfortable to use. Durability improvements courtesy of Gorilla Glass Victus+ and Samsung's toughest Armor Aluminum are highly appreciated.

It's great to see the larger 1.9-inch cover display on the Galaxy Z Flip 4 as it's now possible to do a lot more without having to unfold the device. I particularly like how it's easy to shoot simple replies to text messages from the cover display. Swiping from the top brings quick settings controls.

With app shortcuts, phone calls can be made directly from the cover display and even SmartThings devices can be controlled. This is in addition to a whole host of new camera functionality that can also be accessed through the cover display. It's great to see that the cover display is becoming more useful with every new iteration of the device.

You won't have any complaints about the Galaxy Z Flip 4 as far as the performance is concerned. It boasts the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. It delivers a significant performance improvement that's instantly noticeable for those who've been using the Galaxy Z Flip 4. The 3,700mAh battery is also 12% larger than its predecessor. We look forward to seeing just how much it improves the overall battery longevity when we get the device in for a full review.

Samsung has made improvements to the camera sensors are well. The primary 12-megapixel sensor gets a pixel size and sensor size increase. Auto FPS improves video stabilization as well. We could only take a few shots during our time with the device but there does seem to be a noticeable difference in quality. Images appear brighter and sharper with more accurate color reproduction.

We've been very impressed by the device in our first interaction with it. Clearly, lighting has struck twice for Samsung. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 has incredible potential and there's no doubt that it will end up outselling its predecessor.
