If you are someone who wishes to get out of your unhealthy smartphone usage routine, Google's Digital Wellbeing feature is an excellent companion to have. It was introduced with Android 9 and has become an essential part of all Android phones and tablets. It can help restrict endless scrolling on TikTok and Instagram and track your digital health.

Now, folks at 9To5Google have discovered that Google is working on cough and snore detection, and it would be a part of the Digital Wellbeing package. In the latest beta update of the Digital Wellbeing app, it was discovered that Google would offer snore and cough tracking. It is intended to be a part of the Bedtime Mode section and will use the phone's microphone to listen to your snoring or coughing.

Also, Digital Wellbeing will work in tandem with Google Clock's sleep tracking. For the unaware, Google Clock's sleep tracking feature can track how much time you have slept, using your phone's gyroscope sensor and ambient light sensor to cross-check if your phone is motionless the whole night.

Digital Wellbeing could bring cough and snore detection to all of Android

You can turn on the cough and snore detection during your scheduled bedtime. It will be listed alongside other options such as display customization (grayscale, disabling always-on disable, and dark theme) and Do Not Disturb. You need to toggle on this feature and grant mic access manually.

Notably, the sensor will only be active during the pre-defined hours. The coughing and snoring data will appear alongside existing information about the app's usage. A weekly view of the graphs, along with average cough count and average time snoring would also be visible.

The upcoming feature could also show you the time when you did not cough or snore during bedtime. There is no clarity on when this feature will arrive on the Digital Wellbeing app or whether or not it will be available for all phones. But we think that it could arrive on Samsung smartphones.
