Samsung Galaxy AI thinks I’m fat, and it’s not wrong

One UI 6.1.1's Portrait Studio is one of the most fun new Galaxy AI features. It lets you create portraits in different styles, such as 3D cartoons, watercolors, and sketches, from photos of people, and it's easy to waste hours on the feature, especially the first time you get to use it.Summarize in one-click with Galaxy AI

While the AI can create renders that rather faithfully reproduce the person's face, it can also fail miserably and make you look like a completely different person. Even repeated attempts don't always help, and I often ended up trying out a different photo in the pursuit of the perfect result.

Got neck fat? Galaxy AI's Portrait Studio is ready to shame you

But there's one thing Galaxy AI and Portrait Studio are exceptionally good at: detecting double chins and neck fat. I never expected to be motivated to get to the gym and start losing weight because of an AI render of my face, but here we are.

I tried the feature on photos of several SamMobile staff members. The conclusion? Portrait Studio will pretty much always accurately reproduce your double chin if you have one.

Unfortunately, Samsung offers no option to edit or customize the renders Galaxy AI creates. The only way to prevent it from making you feel bad for being fat or overweight is to game the system by taking pictures at angles that don't let the camera see that extra chin. A thick beard, which I am incapable of possessing, helps as well.

Of course, I could just start working out and get rid of that excess fat. But losing weight isn't an overnight thing. So, for the time being, I think I'll avoid using Galaxy AI's Portrait Studio feature. Well, unless I'm creating portraits—and want to make fun—of other people.

Thankfully, there are many other Galaxy AI features on One UI 6.1.1 that I can focus my energy on. For more details, check out the video below, then hit the link right after it if you're interested in the Galaxy Z Fold 6 or Galaxy Z Flip 6.
