Samsung unveiled its first Galaxy AI-equipped smartphones—Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra—earlier this year. Galaxy AI features were then released to some older high-end phones. Now, the company's boss claims that Samsung is working on AI-focused phones that could look radically different from regular smartphones.

Future Galaxy AI-focused phones could look radically different

Speaking to Australian Financial Review (via GSMArena), Samsung MX head TM Roh said that future AI-focused phones from the company “may turn out to be radically different from Samsung’s existing phones.” He also revealed that the lion's share of the company's research and development is now focused on AI smartphones.

While TM Roh didn't reveal what exactly could be different in future phones, he said devices could be more “mobile.” It is possible that the rectangular form factor may not be necessary in the future. Phones may have larger and foldable screens and more sensors. Besides phones and tablets, Samsung has brought some Galaxy AI features to its wearable devices, including smartwatches and wireless earbuds. So, it is possible that we may not need big-screen phones in the future, as accessories could help with a lot of the work.

We have already seen radically different AI-powered devices like the Humane AI Pin and the Rabbit R1, but none have succeeded. It remains to be seen if Samsung can bring something groundbreaking to the segment.

Don't know what Galaxy AI is? Watch it explained in detail in our video below.

Samsung has already revealed that it will introduce an improved version of Bixby later this year. It will be powered by a large language model (LLM) and could be better equipped to understand voice commands and questions in natural language. It could be unveiled with One UI 7.0 for smartphones and tablets.
