One UI 7 will let you declutter the home screen

Another screenshot that claims to show parts of the upcoming One UI 7.0 update has surfaced, and it reveals some interesting UX changes Samsung might implement with its next big firmware. They look partly inspired by iOS.

As you may have heard by now, rumors say One UI 7.0 will be more than an incremental update. It will supposedly revamp many things, including animations and Samsung app icon designs. Screenshots leaked previously show what the alleged Camera and Gallery app icons (and Camera UI) could look like.

Now, another leaked screenshot (via @chunvn8888) reveals a new “Icon and widget style” settings panel with two main options: Classic and Bold. Take a look below.

Despite the “Classic” name, both styles appear to be new. The Classic mode keeps the app icon labels intact but adds home screen widget labels, similar to iOS. In the current version of One UI (6.1.1), home screen widgets don't have labels, even if app shortcuts do. However, it is worth noting that the Home Up Good Lock module already lets users remove app icon labels.

As for the “Bold” style in One UI 7.0, it seems to remove labels entirely from both home screen app icons and widgets. Or more accurately, this style maintains the current widget configuration from One UI 6 but removes app icon labels.

There may be more options than meets the eye

At first glance, this screenshot suggests that Samsung's upcoming One UI 7.0 update won't offer users the option to keep the current icon and widget style. There's no visible setting to keep app icon labels and no labels underneath home screen widgets.

However, there could be more to these new styles. There's no telling if additional customization options exist in other menus or if labels can be customized individually. We'll have to wait for One UI 7.0 to drop or more leaks to emerge to clarify that.

The story continues after the video

As always, we need to keep in mind that even if we assume the screenshot is legitimate, we're not looking at the final version of One UI 7.0 that will eventually go live for Galaxy phones.

Samsung is in the development stages, and things can always change during beta testing. But all things considered, it looks like Samsung might indeed plan on bringing more drastic changes through One UI 7.0, and we're very much looking forward to seeing what else the company has in mind.
