After getting the ball rolling with a couple of mid-range phones earlier this week, Samsung is bringing the August 2024 security update to a high-end phone, albeit an old one. The Galaxy S20 FE is beginning to receive the update in the US, where the phone is powered by a Snapdragon chip.
Galaxy S20 FE August 2024 update debuts in the US
The update is available on AT&T's network and can be identified by the build number G781USQSIHXG1. As befits a phone that's almost four years old, the August update brings only security fixes to the Galaxy S20 FE.
Nothing except the security patch level will change once the update is installed on your phone. But the August update is still important, as it fixes a critical vulnerability that hit Android smartphones and tablets back in June. Google provided a general fix at the time, and Samsung has now brought the fix to Galaxy devices.
As always, you can download the latest update from your phone's Settings » Software update menu. You can also download the latest Galaxy S20 FE firmware from SamMobile and install it on the phone using a Windows PC and a USB-C cable.
We expect the Exynos variant of the Galaxy S20 FE to get a similar update soon. The same goes for unlocked units sold in the US and devices sold by other carriers.
