Two weeks ago, Samsung released the August 2024 security update to the Galaxy S21, but that update was limited to Asian and European markets. Now, the company has released the new security update to the Galaxy S21 series in the USA.
Galaxy S21 gets August 2024 security update in the USA
The new software update for the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra is now available for factory-unlocked models. It comes with firmware version G99xU1UEUCGXGB and brings the August 2024 security patch that fixes nearly 50 security vulnerabilities discovered in the previous software version. The update is available on all carrier networks int he country.
It is a minor update, so don't expect it to bring any new features or performance improvements. It may have a few bug fixes, though. Its next big update, One UI 6.1.1, might come sometime next month, but nothing is certain as of now.
If you have a factory-unlocked Galaxy S21 series phone and live in the US, you can now check for the new update on your phone. To do that, navigate to Settings » Software update » Download and install.
You can also use the manual firmware flashing process to install the new update, but you need to know your way around the manual firmware flashing process, or you risk bricking your phone and losing your personal data.
The Galaxy S21 series was launched in early 2021 with Android 11 pre-installed. The phones in the lineup received the Android 12 update in late 2021, the Android 13 update in late 2022, and the Android 14 update in late 2023. They will get their last major Android OS update, Android 15 (One UI 7.0), before the end of this year.
The story continues after our One UI 7.0 video below.
After that, the phones in the Galaxy S21 series will get security updates for an additional year.
