Google has started replacing Google Assistant with Gemini on Android smartphones and tablets. And with its new AI assistant, Google is striving to do much more than it did with Google Assistant (and Google Now). Recently, it was revealed that Gemini will get Google Photos integration. Now, it has been revealed that Gemini will get integration with Google Messages, Spotify, and WhatsApp.
Gemini to get Google Messages, Spotify, and WhatsApp integration on Android
Google appears to be working on integrating Gemini with many more first-party and third-party services. A report from Android Authority reveals that Gemini could be integrated with Google Messages, Spotify, and WhatsApp. This information was spotted in the APK file of the latest beta version (15.34.32.29.arm64) of the Google app for Android.
As you can see in the screenshots above, the folks over at Android Authority found toggles for Device Settings, Google Messages, Notifications, Spotify, Phone, and WhatsApp. So, you can do a lot more by just talking to Gemini on your Galaxy phone or tablet. Here is what is possible:
- Device Settings: Control media playback.
- Google Messages: Send or read messages in Google Messages.
- Notifications: Read Android system notifications.
- Spotify: Play your favorite albums, songs, and playlists.
- Phone: Make phone calls.
- WhatsApp: Send messages or make calls via WhatsApp.
The story continues after our video below.
Google is testing all these new integrations internally and hasn't released them to the public yet. However, the company could ready them just in time for the stable Android 15 release for Pixel phones in October 2024. With Apple bringing Apple Intelligence features to its Macs, iPads, and iPhones with macOS 15 Sequoia, iPadOS 18, and iOS 18, it is important for Google to keep its best foot forward with Gemini.
