Samsung launches a variant of Galaxy A55 with extra security chip

Samsung has launched an extra-secure version of the Galaxy A55 in South Korea. It is called the Galaxy Quantum 5 and features an extra security chip from ID Quantique (IDQ). This device is exclusive to the South Korean market and on the SK Telecom network, so you won't be able to buy it if you don't live in South Korea.

The Galaxy Quantum 5 is a variant of the Galaxy A55 with a quantum cryptography security chip that makes it more secure for things like online banking. The phone has been made in collaboration with South Korean telecom carrier SK Telecom. It was available for pre-order starting August 23 and launched on August 28.

It is priced at KRW 618,200 (~$465) and available in three colors: Awesome Ice Blue, Awesome Lilac, and Awesome Navy. Those who buy the phone by September 3 can choose one of the following benefits:

  • 11pay points worth KRW 50,000 (~$37.50)
  • CU benefits worth KRW 50,000 (~$37.50) (6-month pass of T Universe Plus Subscription & CU Mobile Gift Certificate worth KRW 20,000/$1).

The T Direct Shop will offer an additional KRW 50,000 (~$37.50) in 11pay points to customers who pre-ordered the Galaxy Quantum 5 between August 23 and 27 and opened an account by September 3. They will also get a genuine Samsung Silicone Case, a 2-month YouTube Premium subscription, a 6-month Microsoft 365 Basic subscription, and a 60-day YES24 Crema Club Standard subscription.

Galaxy Quantum 5 specifications and features

The device uses a Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) chip from ID Quantique called S2Q000. It combines its truly random number generation process with Samsung Knox for improved security when logging into banking and payment apps.

The Galaxy Quantum 5 sports a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED screen with Full HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection. It also has an in-display optical fingerprint reader. The phone sports a 32MP front-facing camera, a 50MP primary rear camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 5MP macro camera. Its front and rear cameras can record 4K 30fps videos.

It uses the Exynos 1480 chip, 8GB RAM, and 128GB storage. It runs Android 14 out of the box and will get four major Android OS updates. It is powered by a 5,000mAh battery and supports 25W fast charging. It has GPS, 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and a USB Type-C port.

Additional features of the Galaxy Quantum 5 include an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance and stereo speakers. It has an aluminum frame, and its front and rear are covered in glass.
