Galaxy S24 FE to launch with One UI 6.1, or will it?

Samsung has added the Galaxy S24 FE to the list of supported devices for its Camera Assistant app. In the process, the company has revealed that the handset will launch with One UI 6.1—based on Android 14—out of the box.

This was to be expected. December is the earliest Samsung has ever announced new smartphones with the newest version of Android that Google releases in the second half of each year, and the Galaxy S24 FE is slated to arrive well before that, though a concrete launch time frame is unknown at this time.

However, there is a way the Galaxy S24 FE could come with Android 15 and One UI 7.0 in some markets: Samsung bringing the device to different regions in a phased manner similar to its predecessor.

Some markets could get One UI 7 out of the box

The Galaxy S23 FE made its debut in October last year with Android 13 and One UI 5.1 onboard. But in Europe and some other parts of the world, it didn't arrive until December, and Samsung made up for the delayed launch in those markets by preloading the phone with Android 14 and One UI 6.0.

Something similar could happen with the Galaxy S24 FE, though that's just speculation for now. It also remains to be seen if the S24 FE will be eligible for seven major Android OS upgrades like the original Galaxy S24 trio.

Galaxy S FE smartphones offer hardware and software equivalent to those of their non-FE counterparts, so we see no reason other than the difference in pricing for Samsung to not provide the same level of after-sales support to all four Galaxy S24 models.

Author's Note: The S24 FE will likely come with some functionality—including most, if not all, of the Galaxy AI features—that is part of One UI 6.1.1 on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, even though the device will officially report its One UI version as 6.1. That's because Samsung doesn't use the x.1.1 version number on devices that are foldables or tablets.

Why this small One UI 7.0 change seems like a pretty big deal

Why this small One UI 7.0 change seems like a pretty big deal

As you may have probably heard several times before, the upcoming One UI 7.0 update will change many things about the look and feel of Samsung's proprietary Android skin. But oddly enough, in my eyes, one of the most significant changes One UI 7.0 is supposed to bring is rather inconspicuous. If some of the […]
