After months of testing and debugging, Google has finally released the source code for the stable Android 15 update. However, the update isn't ready for any smartphone or tablet yet, including Pixel devices. It will take at least a month for stable Android 15 to run on smartphones and tablets.

Stable Android 15 update source code has been released

The stable Android 15 source code was released today and is available for developers. Usually, when Google releases the source code for a new version of Android, the update is also released to Pixel smartphones and tablets. However, that isn't the case this year. Android 15 still hasn't been released for the Pixel lineup and is expected to be released sometime next month.

Google has also revealed that phones from Samsung and other brands will start getting the Android 15 update “in the coming months.” That isn't saying much. However, we know that Samsung could start the One UI 7.0 Beta Program sometime later this month. The program was expected to begin last month, but the South Korean firm reportedly delayed the release to fix major bugs and ship a more stable version.

Developers can now start testing their apps and games on Android 15 for compatibility reasons. This new Android version offers developers further insights, including the reason for startup, storage usage, improved built-in PDF renderer, and better 3D canvas for drawing. App and game developers can also test new features released with Android 15.

Watch seven reasons why we are excited about Android 15-based One UI 7.0.

Samsung could open the One UI 7.0 Beta Program for the Galaxy S24 series first and then expand it to include other high-end phones, including the Galaxy S23 and the Galaxy A55. The Beta Program will likely be available in China, Germany, India, the UK, and the USA.

Several One UI 7.0 features were leaked a couple of months ago. Those include a revamped UI design, a new Quick Panel layout, redesigned stock apps (including the Camera app), smoother animations and transitions, a new charging animation, and a continuity feature for video calls. More features could be revealed closer to the One UI 7.0 beta release.
