Samsung launches Galaxy Book 4 Edge 15-inch with Snapdragon X Plus

In May this year, Samsung launched the Galaxy Book 4 Edge, which is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite series chipsets. Back then, the company made the laptop available in two screen sizes, 14-inch and 16-inch. Now, the South Korean tech giant has now launched the Galaxy Book 4 Edge with a 15.6-inch display.

How does it differ from 14-inch and 16-inch models?

The new model comes with quite a lot of downgrades compared to the other two models. First, the Galaxy Book 4 Edge 15-inch has a Snapdragon X Plus series SoC, which Qualcomm launched earlier today. It is less powerful than the Snapdragon X Elite series chipsets in the Galaxy Book 4 Edge 14-inch and Galaxy Book 4 Edge 16-inch.

Second, the new model loses out on an AMOLED display and a 120Hz refresh rate that the other two models offer in favor of an LCD panel and a 60Hz refresh rate. Third, it has a dual-speaker setup instead of a quad-speaker setup and lacks a fingerprint scanner, both of which the other two models offer. The other specs, however, remain the same.

With these downgrades, the new laptop should be more affordable than the other models, making it accessible to a wide array of audiences. We say “should be” because Samsung hasn’t announced the price of the laptop yet. The company has, however, revealed the laptop’s specifications and availability details. Let’s take a look at them.

Galaxy Book 4 Edge 15-inch specifications

The Galaxy Book 4 Edge 15-inch features Qualcomm’s newly launched Snapdragon X Plus chipset with an 8-core CPU, which comes in two SKUs — X1P-46-100 and X1P-42-100 — as you can see in the image below. Unfortunately, Samsung hasn’t revealed which model this laptop has.

Compared to the Snapdragon X Elite chipsets in the Galaxy Book 4 Edge 14-inch and Galaxy Book 4 Edge 16-inch, the Snapdragon X Plus in the Galaxy Book 4 Edge 15-inch has four fewer CPU cores with lower clock frequency and less than half the GPU power.

The new laptop has a 15.6-inch display. In the press release, the company hasn’t AMOLED anywhere. Considering that, we think that this is an LCD, unlike the 14-inch and 16-inch models that have AMOLED displays. Furthermore, the spec sheet reveals that the screen has a 60Hz refresh rate, which is half of what the other two models offer.

The story continues after the video…

While the other two laptops have a quad-speaker setup, the new model has a dual-speaker setup, which should also have a significant impact in real life. Samsung has also not mentioned the fingerprint scanner anywhere in the press release. So, that’s another feature the new laptop might be missing. However, we can’t confirm that yet.

Thanks to a large chassis, the Galaxy Book 4 Edge 15-inch has a full-sized keyboard, a similar-sized battery, and the same ports selection as the Galaxy Book 4 Edge 16-inch. Other features of the new laptop are the same as the Galaxy Book 4 Edge 16-inch (and Galaxy Book 4 Edge 14-inch). You can check them out in the image below.

When can you buy it?

Samsung says that it will make the Galaxy Book 4 Edge 15-inch available to purchase in France, Germany, Italy, Korea, Spain, the UK, and the US in October. Expect company to announce the price of the laptop right before it starts taking pre-orders.
