One UI 7.0 beta update needs more time in the oven

The One UI 7.0 beta program requires more time in the oven and may be delayed further, according to a moderator on Samsung's community forums. Samsung has taken more time than usual for developing every One UI update this year, so the One UI 7.0 delay doesn't come as a surprise.

However, the reason for the One UI 7.0 delay is different. While One UI 6.1 and One UI 6.1.1 required more development time because of Galaxy AI, One UI 7.0 is taking longer because Samsung wants to make it as stable as possible before starting the beta testing program.

Furthermore, Samsung is still having discussions about new features, which is contributing to the delay. Again, none of this is surprising. Galaxy AI has upended Samsung's entire One UI release schedule, and we can expect longer wait times for all One UI updates in the future.

One UI 7.0 is a major refresh for the user interface

One UI 7.0, based on Android 15, will introduce substantial visual interface changes and improve aspects like UI animations. According to leaked info from a month ago, the following are some of the features and changes One UI 7.0 will bring to eligible Galaxy smartphones.

  • New system application icons
  • New background interface
  • A new control area at the bottom of the lock screen
  • Adjustment of shortcut icons (size?) in the left and right corners of the lock screen
  • Pull-down shortcut bar and notification can be independent/merged
  • The pill-shaped UI element in the upper left corner notification bar can display more apps
  • Added interruptible animation and optimized app opening and closing animation curve
  • New battery icon and charging animation bar
  • New camera user interface
  • Added support for 5G SMS messages
  • New notification pop-up animations and closing animations
  • Added unlock animation
  • New button touch and page return animation
  • Added many new desktop widgets of various sizes
  • Added more lock screen widgets
  • Added large folders

The One UI 7.0 beta program will go live for the Galaxy S24 series first. Samsung will also offer beta testing to users of other Galaxy smartphones, at least if it sticks with the approach it has taken for previous One UI beta programs.

This month, we can expect Samsung to focus its efforts on bringing One UI 6.1.1 to compatible devices. One UI 6.1.1 for the Galaxy S24 series started rolling out on September 5, and later this month, Samsung will bring the update to flagship devices launched in 2023 and 2022.
