Here’s when One UI 6.1.1 for Galaxy S23 and other 2023 devices could roll out

The One UI 6.1.1 update was released for the Galaxy S24 series last week, and soon, Samsung will bring the update to flagship devices launched in 2023. Samsung didn't provide a specific release date for those devices, but it seems Canadian carrier Telus has done what Samsung wasn't willing to.

According to Telus, One UI 6.1.1 will hit the Galaxy S23 series, the S23 FE, the Z Fold 5, and the Z Flip 5 on September 17. This date is likely just for Canada, but considering Samsung released the Galaxy S24 One UI 6.1.1 update worldwide at the same time, it may not be any different for the 2023 flagships.

The week starting September 16 is the one to look out for

In fact, One UI 6.1.1 for the Galaxy S24 series was released in Canada a day after other countries, so the Galaxy S23 and other devices could get the update in some countries on September 16. That would be a great way to make fans forget their Monday blues, though it would be nice if Samsung can roll out the update sometime this week.

After all, Samsung has already taken a long time to get One UI 6.1.1 out the door. The faster the company finishes the One UI 6.1.1 rollout, the faster we will get Android 15 and One UI 7.0.

Last we heard, Samsung has delayed the One UI 7.0 beta program as it is still having discussions on new features and wants to deliver a beta update that's as bug-free as possible. But we can assume the longer development time for One UI 6.1.1 had something to do with the delay as well.

Unfortunately, longer development times may become standard practice for One UI updates going forward. Well, at least if Samsung plans to regularly introduce new Galaxy AI features. Thankfully, it doesn't look like new AI features will accompany One UI 7.0.

Samsung is likely planning to introduce Galaxy AI features only with x.1 and x.1.1 versions of One UI. Those One UI versions debut alongside new flagship smartphones every year, and so they make for excellent marketing fodder for advertising the latest devices.

Editor's note: The screenshot above, taken from Telus' website, suggests the September 17 update will be a minor update, but “optimizations + security updates” is how the carrier describes One UI updates, so it's most likely talking about One UI 6.1.1 here.
