Last week, Samsung released the One UI 6.1.1 update to the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. While the new software brings many features, it has also introduced a serious camera zoom issue on the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Soon after installing the update, people started reporting that the pictures they took with the stock Camera app at zoom levels between 16x and 19.9x had serious blurriness and ghosting issues. We took out our Galaxy S23 Ultra to check if that was the case, and it indeed was.
One UI 6.1.1 causes ghosting in Galaxy S23 Ultra camera photos captured at 16-19.9x zoom
Images taken at other zoom levels don’t suffer from those issues. Below are two pictures for your reference. The one on the left was taken at 19.9x zoom. It has blurriness and ghosting issues. The one on the right was taken at 20x zoom. It doesn’t suffer from those problems.
Almost a week later, Samsung has acknowledged the issue. On its community forum for Korea, the company says that it was able to reproduce the problem. More importantly, the brand says that it is preparing a fix for those issues and will roll it out “as soon as possible.”
Considering that these are serious issues, keeping people from capturing images between 16x and 19.9x zoom levels, Samsung should release a software update to fix them very soon. When it does, we will notify you. Follow us on Telegram and WhatsApp to be the first to know.
