After weeks of unstoppable leaks, Samsung has finally announced its latest Fan Edition smartphone, the Galaxy S24 FE. It brings improvements in design, display size, performance, and battery capacity. More importantly, it is the first Fan Edition device to promise seven major Android OS updates.
The Galaxy S24 FE is currently available for pre-order in the USA and some other countries. It will go on sale starting October 3.
Galaxy S24 FE brings Exynos 2400e chip worldwide
Usually, Samsung launches its high-end phones with a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip in Canada, China, and the USA and with an in-house Exynos chip in other markets worldwide. Sometimes, it uses a Snapdragon chip across the world.
It hasn't launched a high-end device with an Exynos chip in the US in years, but that is changing today. The Galaxy S24 FE uses the Exynos 2400e chip across the world, including the USA.
The Exynos 2400e is an underclocked version of the Exynos 2400 found inside the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24+. The only difference between the two chips is the 100MHz lower clock speed of the prime CPU core in the Exynos 2400e. The rest of the specifications, including a 4nm fabrication process, remain the same.
Samsung says it has used a 10% bigger vapor chamber system to keep the Galaxy S24 FE cooler under heavy loads.
The Galaxy S24 FE has only 8GB RAM, 50% lower than the higher-end variants of the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24+. It comes in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage variants.
A bigger screen is supported by a bigger battery
A big change in the Galaxy S24 FE comes in the form of a bigger screen. The phone has a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x screen with Full HD+ resolution, a 120Hz variable refresh rate, and up to 1,900 nits of peak brightness.
Its screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+, an improvement over the Galaxy S23 FE's Gorilla Glass 5. The bezels around the screen are thinner.
The bigger screen is powered by a 4,700mAh battery, 200mAh bigger than the one inside the Galaxy S23 FE. It supports 25W fast wired charging, 15W Qi wireless charging, and 4.5W Wireless PowerShare.
A triple-camera setup with ProVisual Engine and Super HDR
Samsung has brought the same triple-camera setup from the Galaxy S23 FE to the Galaxy S24 FE. It has a 50MP primary rear camera with OIS, a 12MP ultrawide camera, an 8MP telephoto camera (with 3x optical zoom), and a 10MP front-facing camera.
It can record 8K 30fps videos using the main camera and 4K 60fps videos from all other cameras. The phone supports capturing, editing, and uploading images and videos in Super HDR.
The Galaxy S24 FE has multiple global positioning systems, including BDS, GALILEO, GLONASS, and GPS. Other connectivity features of the phone include 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and a USB Type-C port.
The phone has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance and an in-display fingerprint reader.
Galaxy S24 FE gets seven major Android OS updates
The Galaxy S24 FE runs Android 14-based One UI 6.1.1 software out of the box and comes with a promise of seven major Android OS updates and security patches for seven years.
The phone also comes with several Galaxy AI features and is bound to get even more AI features with software updates. Those Galaxy AI features include Generative Edit, Instant Slo-Mo, and Portrait Studio.
