Highly anticipated Galaxy S25 Ultra upgrade ‘confirmed’ again

Samsung's got no more flagship phone launches left for the remainder of this year and all eyes are now on next year's flagship lineup, the Galaxy S25 series, that the company will unveil only a few weeks into 2025.

There has been a lot of speculation about what the new top-of-the-line flagship will and won't have. A major upgrade in RAM capacity has been rumored for quite some time now, and a tipster has now “confirmed” the upgrade.

This won't be the first time that a Galaxy S Ultra phone gets 16GB RAM

X tipster @UniverseIce claims that a 16GB RAM variant of the Galaxy S25 Ultra is “100% confirmed.” The tipster had previously alluded to this much RAM capacity without mentioning the Galaxy S25 Ultra directly, but with the claim being reiterated now, there's no ambiguity now.

It's not just the RAM capacity that gets the upgrade. Earlier reports have also suggested that the Galaxy S25 Ultra may get the latest LPDDR6 DRAM modules, which would be a cut above the rest from anything on the market right now, thus delivering a noticeable upgrade in performance and efficiency.

What's more interesting is the chipset that this RAM will be paired to. Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 8 Elite is reportedly going to power the device. It's the latest flagship chipset from the company built on TSMC's 3nm fabrication process. The chipset will potentially deliver significant improvements in CPU and GPU performance in addition to making significant strides in AI performance.

It's unclear if only the Galaxy S25 Ultra will use Snapdragon 8 Elite globally and the other models in the lineup will get the Exynos chipset in some, if not all, markets. While the 16GB RAM seems like an upgrade worth waiting for, it's important to note here that this won't be the first time a Galaxy S flagship gets this much RAM.

The Galaxy S20 and S21 Ultra both offered 16GB RAM variants before Samsung provided 12GB as the maximum on subsequent top-tier phones, so this will be the first time in a few years that it bumps the memory back up to 16.
