After skipping 2015, Samsung embraced software as the key to its future. It improved its smart TV ecosystem with Smart Hub SDK and Smart View SDK. Through Knox, it also extended smartphones, tablets, and wearables for businesses.

In 2017, Samsung held SDC17 with a focus on SmartThings, the next major version of Bixby, and collaboration with Google on AR devices. It integrated its ARTIK and Samsung Connect smart home platforms into SmartThings for a singular smart home ecosystem. It also revealed an SDK for third-party developers to make Bixby-compatible apps.

At the SDC18 event, the South Korean firm showcased One UI for the first time. It launched the first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold, at the event and optimized One UI for such devices. One UI received a lot of praise for its excellent one-handed usage. Samsung also improved developer tools for Bixby and SmartThings.

In 2019, the company unveiled Bixby Marketplace to offer developers more opportunities. It also broadened Tizen OS to other TV manufacturers. At SDC19, Samsung debuted its first Galaxy Z Flip series foldable phone.

Three years ago, the South Korean firm first connected with developers in a new format during the COVID-19 pandemic. At SDC21, Samsung tried to improve the smart home ecosystem through AI, IoT, and security. Bixby, SmartThings, and Samsung Knox received improvements. Moreover, SmartThings received support for Matter.

At SDC22, the company introduced ‘Calm' technology to ensure a seamless experience when onboarding new smart home devices. It also welcomed several brands to the SmartThings platform. Samsung utilized blockchain technology to improve security in smart homes.

Last year, Samsung introduced energy-saving measures in its smart home ecosystem through SmartThings Energy. It also introduced SmartTag 2 and the SmartThings Find SDK for locating lost items. It also improved Samsung Health through the Samsung Privileged Health SDK.
