The entry-level Galaxy A13 from two years ago is getting the October 2024 security update before most flagship Galaxy smartphones. The Galaxy A13's latest security update comes after the update was released for the Galaxy S24 lineup (including the S24 FE).
The update is available in some Asian markets, including Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. Since this is an entry-level phone that has already received two major Android OS upgrades, it may be a few weeks before the update is released worldwide. The same may be the case for the 5G model, which doesn't seem to be getting the update alongside the LTE model.
Galaxy A13 owners can download the October update—build version A135FXXS9EXI2—over the air from their phone's Settings » Software update menu or grab the latest firmware from SamMobile and use it to perform a manual upgrade using a Windows PC.
The Galaxy A13 has received two major Android OS updates since launch and is only eligible for security updates for the duration of its support lifecycle. The Galaxy A14 will get the same kind of support, but the Galaxy A15 will get four major Android OS upgrades and security updates for five years.
As for the Galaxy A16 5G, which went official this month, Samsung is promising six years of Android, One UI, and security updates. That's likely to be the case for most mid-range Galaxy phones that Samsung launches in the future.
