Samsung to supply OLED screens for upcoming iPhone SE

Samsung, the world's biggest maker of OLED panels, will reportedly supply OLED panels for the next-generation iPhone SE (2024). The South Korean firm has been supplying OLED panels to Apple since the launch of the iPhone X, and it will continue to do so even though its supply share has decreased over the years.

Some iPhone SE 4 (2024) units could use Samsung Display's OLED panels

According to a report from Hankooki Daily, Samsung Display will supply OLED panels for the fourth-generation iPhone SE (2024), which is due to be released in the first half of 2025. It will be the first iPhone SE to feature an OLED panel. All previous iPhone SE models used LCD screens.

Samsung Display won't be the only one to supply OLED panels for the upcoming iPhone SE, though. China's BOE and Korean firm LG Display will also supply OLED panels for the iPhone SE (2024). Earlier reports claimed that BOE and LG Display would be the only firms to supply OLED panels for the iPhone SE, but it looks like Samsung Display is also in the mix now. However, it isn't clear how much supply share Samsung Display will get. BOE will get the largest share, though.

A few years ago, LG Display's P-OLED panels were known to have several issues, including longevity and power consumption. However, the company has since solved those issues, and its panels are now as good as Samsung Display's OLED panels. Chinese firms BOE and CSOT have also been making excellent OLED panels, but they can't yet produce enough panels of the same quality to keep a steady supply for Apple's needs.

Apple has been reducing its reliance on Samsung Display for OLED panels. Over the past few years, it has been buying more panels from LG Display for high-end iPhones and from BOE for non-Pro iPhone models. Apple's first OLED iPad uses Tandem OLED panels from LG Display and Samsung Display.
