Samsung might go crazy with dual-Fold and a 2nd Z Flip in 2025

Samsung appears to be in the midst of evolving its foldable phone lineup and rethinking its strategy. The Special Edition Fold went official in Korea earlier this week, all the while rivals from China have become bolder with their foldable phone designs.

Samsung Display has every reason to want to increase its foldable screen sales, which means Samsung's mobile division needs to do better. However, the existing Galaxy Z Flip and Fold lineups appear to be slowing down, and the tech giant may have to think of new ways to breathe more life into the emerging foldable segment.

That is why industry watchers say Samsung might release (at least) two new foldable phone models next year.

A new Flip and a dual-folding Fold

Reportedly, Samsung Display will ship 10% fewer foldable displays this year than in 2023. The company overestimated the demand and has now readjusted its expectations for 2024 and its plans for next year.

Industry watchers cited by ZDNet Korea say Samsung will attempt to improve foldable display sales and energize the foldable phone segment in 2025 through the release of a dual-folding Galaxy Z Fold model and a brand-new, 2nd Flip phone.

Whether the dual-folding Fold will have the same form factor as the dual-hinged Mate XT is unclear, but Samsung Display has experimented with many multi-fold prototypes over the years and should know what the best design might be.

As for the Flip series, industry watchers say Samsung might release a new foldable Flip model in 2025, along with the dual-folding Galaxy Z Fold and the standard Galaxy Z Flip 7. Exactly how this Flip phone would differ from the existing Galaxy Z Flip 6 and future Galaxy Z Flip 7 is unknown. And as usual, take this with a pinch of salt, as nothing is settled until Samsung says it is.

Older reports suggested Samsung could also launch a rollable phone next year, but that plan might be too ambitious. Rollable phones pose new engineering challenges, and in theory, foldable phones are easier to manufacture and maintain than rollable ones.

Either way, Samsung might go into overdrive with foldable phones next year. And with the promising Galaxy S25 series over the horizon for an early 2025 release, plus these intriguing reports about the foldable market, next year might turn out to be one of the most exciting times for Samsung fans.
