India is a lucrative market for smartphone manufacturers and Samsung has so far managed to retain its lead in the country. Not only that, it's also been able to consistently grab the lion's share of India's smartphone revenue, and Samsung has done it again in the third quarter of 2024.

The latest market data reveals that Samsung grabbed the top spot by accounting for 22.8% of all smartphone sales revenue generated in India during this past quarter. The number has inched slightly up from the 22.6% share that Samsung got in Q3 2023.

Samsung's revenue share in India has grown

This stellar performance has kept Samsung as the leader while Apple follows in second place, grabbing 21.6% of the revenue share. The Cupertino-based company actually saw its revenue share marginally by 0.2% compared to the same period last year.

Chinese smartphone OEMs took the remaining three positions to close out the top five, with Vivo, Oppo, and Xiaomi obtaining 15.5%, 10.8%, and 8.7% of the revenue pie, according to the latest report from Counterpoint Research.

As far as unit sales are concerned, Samsung's Galaxy phones accounted for 15.8% of the entire market, a decline from the 17.2% share in Q3 2023. Even though Samsung's overall sales volume declined in Q3 2024, it was able to obtain a higher share of the revenue due to stellar sales of its premium devices, including the Galaxy S series.

Samsung's strategy of providing more advanced features in its mid-range Galaxy A series has also helped since it has encouraged customers to opt for higher-priced models from its more affordable smartphone lineups.

The trend might continue during this current quarter but Samsung may not post any considerable increase, largely as customers hold firm on major smartphone purchases ahead of the new premium Galaxy S25 models that are due to arrive in the first quarter of next year.
