Samsung aims to sell nearly a quarter million dual-folding phones

While Samsung has been showcasing dual-folding phones at trade shows for years, it hasn't actually launched such a device yet. Reports indicate that such a hybrid device could launch later this year. A new report reveals that the company aims to sell nearly a quarter million such devices.

Samsung plans to make 200,000 dual-folding phones this year

A report from South Korea claims that Samsung has started sharing its dual-folding phone plans with its partners. Unlike Huawei's Mate XT, whose screen folds once inwards and once outwards, Samsung's upcoming dual-folding device reportedly has a screen that folds twice inwards.

Apparently, it is similar to the Flex G prototype that Samsung Display has been showcasing over the past couple of years. This design is more durable as the screen isn't exposed.

When it is fully unfolded, the dual-folding phone from Samsung is said to have a nearly 10-inch screen. In comparison, the Huawei Mate XT has a 10.2-inch screen. It isn't clear how thin the dual-folding device would be, but Samsung wants extremely thin parts for it.

The South Korean firm reportedly plans to make 200,000 units of its first dual-folding device. The company is also planning to make 3 million units of the Galaxy Z Flip 7, 0.9 million units of the Galaxy Z Flip FE, and 2 million units of the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Late last year, Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition to show it could make high-speed yet slim foldable devices similar to Chinese brands. However, only 100,000 Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition units were manufactured. You can watch the phone in action in our video below.

The report claims that there won't be many differences between the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and the Galaxy Z Flip FE. Despite launching four foldable phones this year, up from two phones every year, the company doesn't expect sales of its upcoming foldable devices to reach the 10 million mark.
