The Matter smart home standard, backed by CSA (Connectivity Standards Alliance), has been launched. CSA started certifying products for the Matter 1.0 spec last month, and the new standard is now ready for primetime. The launch event took place in Amsterdam yesterday with support for around 200 products.

Amazon, Apple, Google, and Samsung have already made their smart home platforms compatible with Matter. In fact, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings are now completely integrated, which means that whenever you add a new Matter-compatible smart home product to one of those apps, it will also be displayed in the other.

Samsung's Galaxy phones, tablets, and smartwatches are compatible with Matter. Its newer smart TVs and smart refrigerators are also Matter-compatible. The company's second-generation and third-generation SmartThings Hubs will soon receive OTA firmware updates to bring compatibility with Matter.

SmartThings Matter Support

Amazon announced Matter compatibility for its Echo and Fire TV devices. Apple's products running their latest operating systems are Matter-compatible as well. Aqara, Eve, Nanoleaf, Philips Hue, and various other popular smart home product brands have started rolling out updates to make their devices compatible with Matter.

Matter currently supports ACs, protocol bridges, smart lighting, smart plugs, smart door locks, smart sensors, weather devices, smart blinds, and video players. It will soon bring support for more device types, including carbon monoxide detectors, home appliances, presence sensors, security cameras, and smoke sensors.
